As the BILD reported that the former Werder Bremen attacking midfielder’s farewell match will take place on March 22, 2025 at the Weserstadion. A few details still need to be clarified before the club officially announces it, the report says. At that time, there is an international break in the Bundesliga.
When Werder celebrated its 125th birthday in February, Diego was already a guest at the Weserstadion again. Afterwards he announced: “I had an unforgettable time at Werder. It would be wonderful to stand on the pitch here again with many friends and companions and to say goodbye to the fans.”
Diego played for Werder from 2006 to 2009 and became an absolute superstar. In 132 competitive matches he scored 54 goals and provided 42 assists. In the summer of 2009 he moved to Juventus Turin for almost 25 million euros – the Bremen team never received more for a player.
Ailton, Torsten Frings and Claudio Pizarro recently played their farewell matches at Bremen’s Weserstadion. The matches were all completely sold out. According to the report, those in charge are optimistic that this will also be the case for Diego. After all, the Brazilian was not only a key player at Osterdeich during his time there, but also an absolute crowd favorite.
