After his arrival at Borussia Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy chose the number 19, which he had also worn during his time at 1. FC Köln. The number 9, which a striker of his calibre usually wears and which he also wore at VfB Stuttgart, was taken by Sebastien Haller.
But the Ivorian left BVB at the last minute on deadline day, freeing up the number 9. Since Guirassy had not yet played a game with the number 19 due to his knee injury, a change was possible – the ex-Stuttgart player did not hesitate for long and changed the number.
This is obviously annoying for fans who bought a Guirassy jersey with the number 19 in advance. But before you get too upset: BVB has already announced that every fan can exchange their Guirassy jersey with the number 19 free of charge. The prerequisite is that you ordered or bought the shirt through BVB. The club and Guirassy will cover the costs. More information is available here.
Before Haller, greats such as Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Jan Koller, Lars Ricken and Stephane Chapuisat had worn the number 9 for BVB. However, flops such as Emre Mor, Andriy Yarmolenko and Ciro Immobile also wore it. BVB can only hope that Guirassy will join the first category.
