It’s been four years since PS5 arrived in our homes and shortly after, rumours of an improved version, called PS5 Pro, began to emerge. The previous generation had it. Now it’s more official than ever. The wait for PlayStation fans is finally over.
A technical presentation led by Mark Cerny, Sony’s chief architect, and lasting no more than nine minutes, was the stage chosen by the company to present the long-awaited PS5 Pro. It is a more powerful version than the current one and with new features. Below we summarize all of them.
This new version is built on three pillars that improve the experience compared to the original console: improved GPU, advanced Ray Tracing and custom AI-powered scaling. This results in 67% more processing units and 28% faster memory, allowing for 45% faster rendering than the current console. In other words, the gaming experience will be much smoother.
As for AI-powered upscaling, it’s a system called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This technology is based on machine learning to deliver higher quality, much sharper images. Or put another way: video games should look much better.
Another notable feature is PS5 Pro Game Boost. This will be responsible for stabilising and improving the performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games, which number more than 8,500 and will be identified with the label: PS5 Pro Enhanced, according to the official PlayStation blog. The console will also arrive with Wi-Fi 7 wireless technology and will be compatible with VRR and 8K.
PS5 Pro price and release date
When will this new console cost? Sony has announced that PS5 Pro will cost 799.99 euros and will be available for sale on November 7, 2024. If you have the current PS5 and want to upgrade to PS5 Pro, it is very likely that some stores will offer us the classic upgrade plan, as happened with PS4 to PS4 Pro.
