The masters of retrofuturistic pixel art from Barcelona have a new game in their hands. At VidaExtra we have been following them since 2022 and we loved their cover letter: Haneda Girl It’s the return of Koba Studio, set in the same universe as Narita Boy and packed with action with a classic touch that suits it wonderfully.
Haneda Girl is clearly inspired by games like Hotline Miami, Katana Zero and Broforce, but according to its creators, they have given this mix a radically new touch, achieving a superb contrast between a minimalist narrative and aesthetic and a superb rhythm. What’s more, as a taste of what was promised, we already have its first official trailer.
In addition to its aesthetics, which they define as Kawaii pixel art, Haneda Girl offers action from two types of gameplay allowing us to alternate between clearing stages of enemies with Haneda’s own light katana, which is a tiny character with enormous mobility; or causing greater destruction aboard her MOTHER robot-armor, which is loaded with projectiles. Promoting the contrast between agility and brute force as a game dynamic.
On the other hand, along with the trailer, the first official images of Haneda Girlshowing the look of the new game and the dynamics of each scenario.
- Despite appearing to steal a Star Wars Mandalorian’s helmet, Haneda has ninja skills.
- With MOTHER’s armor we can quickly complete tasks that require less subtlety.
- The mission and phase selection system makes it clear that there will be timed challenges, and that we will lose many lives in each game.
As far as the plot goes, because it has one, Haneda Girl resumes the universe we knew in Narita Boy under the proposal of freeing the Data Empire in games in which there will be loops and fast but tremendously effective action to the rhythm of a soundtrack that matches its artistic section and with those techno touches that establish its identity with the previous work of Koba Studio. And not only that, since by playing we will unlock new game modes and skills.
From here we must address the big question: When and where will Haneda Girl be available? The release date is still up in the air, although we know it’s been in development for at least two years. However, it’s now possible to add the game to the Steam wishlist, which is a good sign for its release and also a confirmation that it will be coming to PC.
