It was June 15 when Mia Rusthen, competing in the inaugural World WCR event on the circuit dedicated to Marco Simoncelli, fell badly during the fifth lap of the Saturday race. Transported to Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, due to the head trauma with concussion found, the driver was placed in a pharmacological coma and underwent surgery to eliminate the hemorrhage.
From there a slow and complicated process of recovery and rehabilitation that today has led her to return to mobility as her family communicated via Instagram together with a video that shows her walking although still needing help.
“Here is Mia, 12 weeks after the accident in Misano, at the long-awaited discharge from the hospital in Sunnaas. Look how she walks alone with only the help of her sister – the long post reads – Things are progressing in every way for her. Step by step, day by day she is improving. She is a true champion, who works hard, going from laughter, to tears, to despair, without ever wanting to give up even if sometimes that would be the temptation”.
“She’s back to being smart, strong, sweet, sensitive, stubborn, funny and wonderful as she always was. The road is still long and complicated and it will be up to her to fight, but we will all support her and we know you will too”, the closing dedicated to the fans to whom the 21-year-old’s family wanted to give credit.
