There is room for a European youth competition for theInter Primaverawhich from this year will be under the technical guidance of Andrea Zanchetta. The young Nerazzurri will in fact play the Youth League 2024-25a tournament that over the years has completely changed shape, becoming the main European event for youth teams. In 2011-12, the Nerazzurri won the NextGen Series, the tournament – not recognized by UEFA – that served as a prelude to the Youth League, born in 2013.
How the Youth League 2024-25 works
Inter Primavera will take part in the Champions League path (the other is the National Champions Path dedicated to the youth teams that won their own championship; for Italy this year Sassuolo, winner of the last Primavera Championship, will take the field), which will follow in the footsteps of the new format decided by UEFA for the three main European competitions of the big teams. Goodbye group stage, it’s time for the championship phase: here the teams will face six different opponents, three home games and three away, following in the footsteps of the first team.
At the end of these six matches, the 36-team standings for the championship phase of the Champions League Path are determined. Only the top 22 teams will advance to the next round and will be added to the 10 teams that will qualify from the National Champions Path, for a total of 36 teams.
The round of 32 will be a crossover pairing, with the top six teams from the league phase facing the last six qualifiers (17th to 22nd place) from the league phase of the Champions League Path, while the remaining ten teams (7th to 16th place) will face the teams from the National Champions Path. The draw for the round of 16 will then continue until the Final Four.
