A great initiative and new event for the Italian half marathon calendar. For the first time in history, the Half Marathon of Italy ‘Memorial Enzo Ferrari’. And the date is that of next March 30th and in the places where the history of Scuderia Ferrari in Maranello was born and raised.
It was presented today, as reported by fidal.it.
The event – organized by Master Group Sport and sponsored by the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipalities of Modena, Maranello, Fiorano and Formigine – will be an opportunity to celebrate together the indissoluble bond between the Ferrari community and its territory, once again putting people and their well-being at the center, through the positive and unifying drive of sport. The event was presented this morning in Fiorano in the presence of FIDAL President Stefano Mei, European half-marathon champion Yeman Crippa, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, DG Master Group Sport Antonio Santa Maria and Paralympic athlete Rita Cuccuru. “The name of Enzo Ferrari evokes absolutely indelible memories in athletes all over the world – said President Mei – At different speeds, the stopwatch dictates the pace of both athletics and motor racing, and it is exciting to think that many athletes will be able to run on these roads and on the Fiorano circuit. I am convinced that this new event can be an added value for the national calendar”.
The date of March 30 is also significant, because it was in that month that the founder Enzo Ferrari crossed the gates of Maranello aboard the first car, the 125 S, the first Ferrari. The routes will vary from the classic 21.097 km route, to tracks that will give the opportunity to test themselves even to those who are new to the discipline of racing: through the 5 and 10 km routes it will be possible for everyone to participate and share unique emotions. Three distances to run on a new route that winds through the most symbolic, beloved and exclusive Ferrari locations: the race will in fact start from the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, cross the Fiorano track, the historic entrance and the internal avenues of the Ferrari factory, to then continue on the classic route to Piazza Roma in Modena, passing through the municipality of Formigine.
The initiative will allow the creation of a work designed for the very young people of the area: the entire proceeds from the registrations and contributions of the partners will be used to create a new outdoor multi-sport field, in the context of the Parco dello Sport in Maranello.
