The DFB team defended its lead in the Nations League with a 2-2 draw in the Netherlands. In contrast to the 5-0 win against Hungary, however, Germany struggled, particularly in the early stages. In the 2nd minute, Tiijani Reijnders put the Elftal in the lead. After a few anxious moments in defense, Julian Nagelsmann’s team found their way into the game better and were able to take the lead temporarily thanks to goals from Deniz Undav (38th minute) and Joshua Kimmich (45th+3).
However, a lack of attention in defence led to Denzel Dumfries equalising shortly after half-time. Referee Davide Massa caused a lot of trouble on several occasions, making strange decisions that not only riled up Julian Nagelsmann.
The bottom line is that there are both good and bad points. This also applies to the performances of the individual DFB players. Let’s take a look at the individual reviews:
Neuer’s successor had to reach behind him after just two minutes, but had practically no chance of defending in a one-on-one with Reijnders. After that, the balls kept going just past his goal before he made a good save against Simons. His save against Gakpo was even stronger shortly after, but he was offside. The Barca keeper was a little unsure of his position in the penalty area, but with the ball at his feet he was absolutely confident, apart from one scene.

Joshua Kimmich played a fairly unremarkable first half, without any real mistakes, but also hardly any decisive impulses. Shortly before the break, however, the 29-year-old moved into the penalty area at the decisive moment and scored to make it 2-1. The second half followed a similar pattern. Kimmich was not particularly conspicuous before he almost set up Beier’s winning goal.

The Leverkusen player played a frightening first half and regularly looked like a schoolboy in his duels with Brobbey. The defensive cupboard regularly turned into a chest of drawers today. In fact, Tah did not win any of his five duels before half-time. His actually good job in the build-up play is hardly worth mentioning when he does not work out at all with the defending. The player, who had already been booked, had to stay in the dressing room at half-time.

Nico Schlotterbeck appeared more stable than his teammate Tah in the first half. The defender only slipped at an extremely unfortunate moment when Dumfries had a header chance, almost allowing the score to go to 0-2. The Borussia team were a little unlucky to have received an unjustified warning early on. Immediately after the break, Schlotterbeck had a really bad tackle on Brobbey, which allowed him to make it 2-2. This was his only real mistake in the second half. He was convincing in the build-up to the game.

David Raum did a good job on his left side and was involved in many actions. Just before half-time, he set up the 2-1 after a diagonal ball from Andrich. After the break, the Leipzig player set up a huge chance for Havertz. 20 minutes before the end, he had the chance to make it 3-2 himself, but was unable to get the ball on goal.

Robert Andrich did not get into the game well at all and was repeatedly overrun by the fast Dutch players. Before the 0-1 he was also too late. For a long time the Leverkusen player did not get into any tackles at all before he warmed himself up with a shot in the 29th minute. Shortly before half-time he did manage to shine with the diagonal ball that opened the scoring before the 2-1. In the second half he immediately got involved with a very important sliding tackle and remained very present afterwards, playing good opening balls. After 64 minutes he had to make way for Can.

Pascal Groß also played his part in the midfield often being easily outplayed. With the ball at his feet, however, the veteran seemed confident and self-assured. Overall, Groß did his job well, which is also underlined by his passing rate. In the 64th minute, he was replaced by Pavlovic.
Rating: 5/10
Florian Wirtz got off to a good start and set up a chance for Havertz right at the start. He then showed some artistic moves, but they lacked the final threat. His saved shot in the 38th minute gave Undav the chance to equalize at 1:1. In the second half, Wirtz seemed a little tired and somewhat annoyed. He managed nothing more than a deflected shot.
Rating: 6/10
Kai Havert was again well integrated into the attacking game today and was dangerous several times. His best chance came in the tenth minute when he narrowly missed the goal after a pass from Wirtz. However, the Londoner was involved in the 1:1 a little later because he won an important challenge 20 meters from the goal and served Wirtz. In the second half he missed a mega chance before he actually deserved a scorer with his cross for Raum.

Jamal Musiala needed a little time to get into the game and initially shone more defensively. As the last man, he disrupted Xavi Simons’s finishing. His pressing was always strong. His ball win in the 38th minute led to the 1:1 equalizer. The Munich player, however, was rather unlucky in his finishing. In fact, all six of his shots were blocked. He was unlucky in the middle of the second half when a critical challenge with Xavi Simons was not punished with a penalty. Musiala didn’t look so good in the 2:2 when he lost the ball after winning the ball himself and the Netherlands scored.
Rating: 6/10
Deniz Undav played well in the first half hour, but was unable to make a decisive impact. This changed dramatically in the final phase of the first half. The Stuttgart player first scored the equalizer before setting up Kimmich’s 2-1 goal shortly before half-time. Undav was also busy in the second half and, among other things, set up a good opportunity for Musiala. After just over an hour, his day’s work was done.

Waldemar Anton was the most reliable German central defender after coming on as a substitute. The new Dortmund player made no obvious mistakes, played calmly and was also able to impress with the odd long ball.
Rating: 7/10
Maximilian Beier tried to make an impact with his speed. However, he didn’t really succeed for a long time. It was only shortly before the end that Kimmich put him in the spotlight and he came very close to making it 3-2.
Rating: 5/10
Emre Can was right in the middle of the action and had numerous duels – some of them on the edge of legality. A very solid performance without any offensive highlights.
Rating: 6/10
Aleksandar Pavlovic found his way into the game straight away and seemed more present than Groß before. As usual, the youngster shone with his tremendous overview and precise passing. He was also able to win one or two important duels against the ball. The 20-year-old is pushing for a place in the starting eleven.
Rating: 8/10
Führich came on for Musiala shortly before the end, but was unable to really make an appearance.
