Latina, September 9, 2024 – With a council resolution on the direction of Mayor Matilde Celentano, approved on Thursday, September 8, the technical-economic feasibility project for the implementation of the video surveillance and license plate reading system in the Municipality of Latina was approved. The document, useful for adhering to a regional notice for the granting of contributions, will be submitted to the attention of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety for approval.
“For the administration – says the mayor – the issue of urban security is a priority. In fact, there is an ever-increasing need for widespread control of the territory to prevent and combat phenomena of urban decay, illicit behavior and crime. With the installation of new cameras we intend to strengthen the actions of prevention and combating the forms of illegality present. At the same time, electronic eyes are essential to guarantee and improve the use of public spaces, improve their liveability and usability, and increase the perception of security by citizens”.
The project includes new cameras, multi-sensor and optics, to be installed in the areas of Piazza del Popolo, Piazza del Quadrato, in the Falcone and Borsellino gardens and in the Villaggio Trieste neighborhood. The estimated cost of the works is 60 thousand euros. All are equipped with technology capable of making objects visible both in bright areas and in darker ones.
These will be integrated into the integrated city video surveillance system, whose control and management headquarters are located at the Local Police headquarters in Piazzale dei Mercanti.
“In the Committee for Public Order and Safety convened at my request by the prefect Vittoria Ciaramella – Celentano declares – to synergistically address the situation of Villaggio Trieste, for example, all the interested parties considered the presence of cameras to be of fundamental importance to monitor the situation and contain, as much as possible, widespread crime phenomena. The electronic eyes, together with the support of other law enforcement agencies, can make the difference in protecting public safety”.
