The long-awaited sequel to the hit film Beetlejuice has earned 145 million dollars worldwide in its first weekend, according to American media. Of this amount, 110 million dollars were earned in the US. After Alice in Wonderland, it is the best opening of director Tim Burton to date.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premiered at the end of August at the Venice Festival. In the comedy horror film, Delia and Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) return to their old home in Winter River. Teenage daughter Astrid (played by Jenna Ortega) discovers how to open the portal to the afterlife and release the spirit Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) again.
Director Tim Burton’s film received rave reviews. The sequel is currently showing in over 130 Dutch cinemas.
