ASTRO BOT, Team ASOBI’s latest project, won the hearts of gamers thanks to its many PlayStation references and story. The base experience includes over 100 cameos from iconic characters, and it looks like more could be coming in the coming months via downloadable content.
The platformer debuted in early September and immediately became a GOTY contender. In addition to praising the polished gameplay and clever level design, critics and gamers applauded the homages to franchises from Sony and other third-party studios that defined the brand’s history.
The original adventure features 150 VIP Bots who are dressed up as iconic characters – from Crash Bandicoot and Jill Valentine to Kratos and Nathan Drake. On their own, the selection of cameos pays a fitting tribute to PlayStation’s legacy – but it seems the developers still have a few surprises up their sleeve.

ASTRO BOT could have cameos from Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin and more popular series
As discovered by the community, ASTRO BOT’s credits include a section where Team ASOBI thanks all the third-party developers and publishers who allowed their characters and intellectual properties to appear in the adventure game.
Interestingly, there are franchises on the list that are conspicuous by their absence from the base game. For example, the credits thank Ubisoft for the inclusion of Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Beyond Good & Evil. There’s also mention of SHIFT UP’s Stellar Blade, Koei Tecmo’s Rise of the Ronin, Team17’s Worms, and Argonauts Games’ Croc: Legend of the Gobbos.
No characters from any of the previous series appear in the original ASTRO BOT experience, so their mention in the credits suggests they could be arriving via downloadable content. Team ASOBI has confirmed that it is already preparing several free DLCs that will arrive after launch.
Stellar Blade, Assassin’s Creed, Rise of the Ronin and more could be coming to ASTRO BOT
According to the developers, the platformer will receive new speedrun and challenge levels. If these sequences follow the same structure as in the base game, it is very likely that they will reward players with more Bot cameos. So, there is a chance that we will find the characters from the list above there.
That said, it’s also possible that Team ASOBI was given permission to include these franchises in the game, but ended up not doing so for whatever reason. And of course, it’s also possible that the characters are hidden and waiting to be discovered in the original adventure.
But tell us, what cameos do you think are missing in the game? Let us know in the comments.
