Volunteer Jelmer emotional about farewell at Schalkhaar asylum center: “It put my life back on track”

Hidden between the meadows lies the Schalkhaar Asylum Seekers’ Center on an old military base. For years, Jelmer van der Brug has been a volunteer at Time4You, a project that was set up by the Refugee Work Foundation. A group of volunteers who care for children living at the asylum seekers’ center. Jelmer, who struggles with an addiction past, gets a lot of strength from working with the children. Nevertheless, he quits and that makes him very emotional. “During the period that I was recovering from my addiction, this work gave me a lot of joy.”
