The build-up to Halloween celebrations begins earlier and earlier each year, and Konami hasn’t waited for the first pumpkins to appear on the street to create the right atmosphere: Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake has re-emerged from the ashes (or snow) showing what its first hour and a half of gameplay will look like, and if you know the original by heart, you’re going to hallucinate.
What are you going to see? Through a collaboration with the 2BRO YouTube channel, Konami has offered a kind of Guided Tour with the initial stages of the game (with comments in Japanese) in which we can see how those responsible for the Layers of Fear and The Medium saga have rebuilt the cursed town of Silent Hill through Unreal Engine 5 and, incidentally, the new gameplay and setting achieved with modern systems.
A step in the right direction, a bit too conservative or a faithful replica of the PS2 title? It’s all a matter of taste, but as you’ll see, in the remake of Silent Hill 2 There is a bit of all three in the result. Above all, in the fundamental: constantly maintaining the underlying tension that characterizes the saga.
Announced in October 2022, albeit with several previous leaks that began to appear during September, the new Silent Hill 2 began to take shape in 2019.
Bloober Team’s main goal is not to reimagine the original game, as in other remakes, but to offer an ambitious update that brings back the essence and, despite receiving a huge visual leap, feels extremely familiar to those returning to the cult classic. Aiming to offer that game from more than two decades ago so that it feels on PS2 and PC just as they treasure it in their memories.
On the other hand, in this generous gameplay of the new Silent Hill 2 Not only do we get to see how the action scenes will work, but also how we’ll be able to interact with the environment, notes or the map, and even put on some of the new accessories, such as the cardboard Pyramid Head mask made from a pizza box that’s offered as a bonus in the Deluxe Edition. Which brings us to the last question.
The remake of Silent Hill 2 will arrive October 8, 2024 on PS5 and PC. In a month. However, the Deluxe Edition includes, along with the masks, the digital art book and the digital soundtrack, up to two days of early access. In any case, the goal is the same for both Konami and the Bloober Team: to offer the ultimate Halloween plan.
