The 2024 version of the DesmosediciGP took the top four spots: it had never happened before this season. On a track where Ducati has often won, the GP24 shows it has taken a further step forward. The first GP23, that of Marc Marquez, finished at 6”469.

Misano Adriatico Today’s #frontrownews is dedicated to the DesmosediciGP24, the latest creation from engineer Gigi Dall’Igna and Ducati technicians. After a somewhat difficult start, beyond the victories obtained, the GP24 seems to have changed gear starting from the Italian GP, at Mugello, the seventh round of the season: in the race, for the first time, the podium is all GP24, with Bagnaia first, Bastianini second and Martin third. Now at the 13th race, here are 4 GP24s in the first four places, with the first GP23, that of Marc Marquez, detached by 6”469, which divided by the 13 laps of the sprint makes almost half a second per lap (0”497). In short, quite a lot. And the first four fastest laps also confirm the great competitiveness of the latest Ducati. However, we cannot forget that Marquez started from the ninth spot on the grid due to a mistake in qualifying, so much so that on the first lap his gap was already 2”569, and almost 5” on the fifth lap (4”933), until reaching a maximum of 7”584, before dropping to 6”4 on the finish line. The GP23 demonstrated its potential in the single lap with Marco Bezzecchi’s third place, just 20 hundredths slower than Franco Morbidelli’s GP24 and 36 faster than Jorge Martin’s, who went on to win the race. Bezzecchi ruined his excellent qualifying with a terrible start, so much so that he was eighth, right in front of Marquez, at the end of the first lap. We won’t know how it would have ended if Marco had gotten the start right and if Marc hadn’t made a mistake in qualifying, but from what we saw, Marquez had at least the chance to play for the podium with the Morbidelli/Bastianini duo and leave two GP24s out of four behind him. Because the rider, fortunately, still makes the difference in MotoGP, as demonstrated by the performances of Martin, Bagnaia and Marquez. But with the GP24 it seems a little easier to do so.
This is today’s #frontrownews, I would like to know your opinion.
