After weeks of speculation about his future, Mats Hummels has finally put an end to his own uncertainty by moving to AS Roma in Italy last week and is now continuing his career with the Serie A adventure. As Hummels himself says, he has lost none of his fitness during the summer break, but the famous match fitness is a different story for every professional footballer. In order to achieve this, in addition to regular training and extra shifts, every player needs one thing above all: games! And that is exactly what Hummels is missing. Due to the long time until a decision is made about what he should do after his successful years at Borussia Dortmund, he was unable to prepare at club level and thus was unable to play any test matches or game forms in training. Hummels himself knows this too: “I am in good shape, I worked hard in the summer, but it is something different than training with the team,” said the ex-Dortmund player. But the 35-year-old is already clear about how he intends to make up for this disadvantage.
“I think it will take two to three weeks before I am really ready to play, then I hope to be in good shape. I will speak a lot with the coaching staff and work hard both on the pitch and in the gym. I want to be in the best shape as quickly as possible,” is the plan of the central defender, who has to play his way into the Roman team. The competition for the former German international in the Eternal City is fierce. In addition to the Italian Gianluca Mancini and the ex-Frankfurt player Evan N’Dicka, Roma also signed the Spaniard Mario Hermoso from Atlético Madrid this summer.
