Tennis player Iga Swiatek, the Polish number 1 in the world, did not qualify for the semi-finals of the US Open. American Jessica Pegula defeated Siatek (23) with remarkable ease: 6-2 6-4.
Swiatek had not yet lost a set in New York and met sixth-seeded Pegula, an opponent she had defeated in the quarterfinals two years ago on her way to her first US Open title.
In the semi-finals, 30-year-old Pegula will face Karolina Muchova on Thursday. The 28-year-old Czech was far too strong for Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarter-finals: 6-1 6-4.
