The president of the V Municipio, Mauro Caliste, raises the alarm: “Piantedosi should come here too, and not just go to Tor Bella Monaca. There is no more time”
Rome, 5 September 2024 – ”With concern and urgency, we want to underline how the neighborhood Quarticciolo and the entire quadrant between Alessandrino and Viale Palmiro Togliatti are now under siege by organised crime. The crime news events that continue to occur, the latest of which was a shooting that took place last night, testify to the level of danger that these areas have reached. We appreciate the attention that the Minister of the Interior has reserved for Municipio VI, with his recent visit to Tor Bella Monaca, but we believe it is essential that it also be extended to Quarticciolo and the surrounding neighborhoods. These territories need immediate intervention, not just a symbolic presence“. The president of the Municipio V Mauro Caliste declared this in a note.
“AND It is essential that concrete and lasting solutions are brought, beyond any political alignment. The priority must be the safety of citizens. We have been appealing to the competent authorities for some time now to focus the attention of the police on this area, which risks becoming a crime-free zone.The resources currently available are forced to be divided between other critical areas, such as Pigneto, where in addition to drug dealing, the situation has been further aggravated by the presence of displaced people from Mandrionand” is still read.
“When evictions are carried out, it is essential to provide alternative housing solutions, to prevent the desperation of the evicted people from spilling over into other parts of the territory, fueling a vicious circle of degradation and crime. This administration is doing its utmost to intervene in the most problematic neighborhoods, but it is clear that our resources and our efforts are no longer sufficient. We ask the Minister of the Interior to intervene concretely, with a strengthening of the police force and a specific strategy to combat organized crime in these areas. There is no more time, it is time to act. The citizens of Quarticciolo and the entire quadrant deserve to live in safety and with dignity” conclude Caliste.
