Nettuno, September 5, 2024 – On Saturday, September 7, starting at 8:00 p.m. in Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, an important event will be held focused on crucial issues such as social justice, legality, and dignified work. The initiative, promoted by the Office of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue of the Diocese of Albano, in collaboration with the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Nettuno, the Laudato sì Castelli Romani Community, and with the patronage of the Municipality of Nettuno, aims to be a moment of reflection and discussion open to all citizens.
The memory of Satnam Singh and a future of hope – 125 years after the founding of the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Nettuno, created to support the most vulnerable farmers, the event will remember the tragic story of Satnam Singh, the Indian laborer who died in Latina in inhumane conditions. An episode that has shaken the collective conscience and invites us to reflect on the issue of gangmastering and the exploitation of workers.
A dialogue between religions, economy and society – The Bishop of the Diocese of Albano, Vincenzo Viva, will dialogue with the sociologist Marco Omizzolo, an undisputed authority in the field of investigations into undeclared work and gangmastering. Omizzolo, awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2018, has dedicated years of studies to the phenomenon of gangmastering in the Agro Pontino, denouncing the living and working conditions of the laborers. The event will also be attended by representatives of the Sikh community of the area, the Founder and President of the Islamic Cultural Center Al-Madina Nettuno Anzio Mollah Hossain Ahaned and, via video link, the economist Sister Alessandra Smerilli, advisor to the Laudato Sì High Training Center.
Music and solidarity – The female multi-instrumentalist band “Le note criminali”, already testimonials of various social events, will make the evening even more engaging. Their music will accompany the reflections and debates, creating an atmosphere of sharing and solidarity.
A shared commitment – Davide Sociale, Operations Manager of the ODV sector of the National Association of the State Police, Nettuno section, confirmed the presence of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event, demonstrating once again the commitment of the police force in promoting legality and social justice.
An invitation to participate – The initiative aims to be a starting point for a common path towards a more just and equitable society. The invitation is addressed to all citizens, associations, institutions and anyone who wants to contribute to building a better future.
