In a surprising return to stardom, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has seen a dramatic increase in its Steam player base, with numbers skyrocketing by 300% in just a few days. On August 29, 2024, around 7,500 players were simultaneously active on the platform, and by September 1, that number had risen to nearly 29,000, according to SteamDB data.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance, an open-world RPG developed by Warhorse Studios and released on February 13, 2018, is set in medieval Bohemia and is known for its focus on realism. Players follow Heinrich, a blacksmith’s son whose life changes drastically after a traumatic event, and are given the freedom to decide what kind of hero they wish to be.
Despite not receiving any new content since 2019, the game is experiencing a resurgence in 2024, thanks in large part to a special Steam sale that started last weekend. The standard edition is available for just $2.99, while the “Royal Edition,” which includes all DLC, costs $3.99, however, the offer will only be available until September 5.
The game’s surge in popularity could also be tied to the anticipation surrounding the sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. After a long period of silence regarding a possible sequel, it has been confirmed that Heinrich’s story will continue and the sequel will be released on February 11, 2025 for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Still, whatever the reason for the resurgence, it’s a good time for fans of the medieval world to check out the title if they haven’t already.
