With the European Championship over, the next European competition that will feature Italy is the 2024-25 edition of the Nations League. A tournament organized by UEFA to replace international friendlies. The Azzurri have been in League A since the first edition and for this season they have been placed in Group 2 together with France, Belgium and Israel. A difficult group for the national team coached by Luciano Spalletti who will have to use these matches to give Italy an identity in view of the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup, the FIGC’s number 1 objective.
The group stage of the 2024-25 Nations League for Italy will start on September 6 with the challenge against France and will conclude, again against the French, on November 17. Then it will follow – possibly – the knockout stage with the quarter-finals (from this edition) and then the final four that will decree the national team winner of the competition.
There are 54 European national teams that will participate in the 2024-25 Nations League, divided into four different leagues – depending on the results of the last edition. Italy – since the first edition – is in League A, the main one, which in turn is divided into four groups. The Azzurri are placed in Group 2 together with Belgium, France and Israel.
Compared to previous editions, both the first and second-placed teams of the four groups of League A will have the opportunity to participate in the Final Four. In fact, from this edition onwards, the quarterfinals have been introduced, which will involve the eight national teams that finish in the first two places in the group stage of League A (until last edition only the first-placed teams advanced to the next round, facing each other in the Final Four). Whoever gets past the quarterfinals (double match, home and away) will participate in the Final Four to decree the winner of the 2024-25 Nations League.
The four teams that finish last in each of the four groups in League A will be relegated to League B (for the next edition of the tournament).
All the matches of the Azzurri involved in the Nations League 2024-25 will be visible on free-to-air TV live on RAI 1 with Alberto Rimedio and Lele Adani in commentary and technical commentary. It will also be possible to watch the matches in streaming, inside or outside the home, via the RaiPlay app or website.
