Fiumicino, 5 September 2024 – The strike of September 7th proclaimed by Fit Cisl and Ugl Trasporto from 1pm to 5pm remains confirmedThis is what emerged after the national Air Transport department of Fit-Cisl met today to examine the current situation of Ita Airways following EU approval for Lufthansa’s acquisition of 41% of the company“both in terms of strategic evolution and of the so-called remedies indicated by the European Commission itself, which have not yet been defined at the moment”. The only certainty we have, underlines Fit, “is that the future fate of the company, its role within the air transport market and, consequently, the conditions of the staff will be determined by the remedies that the EU will have to validate, as well as by the conditions of the staff who will not have to suffer any penalisation, as already happened after the signing of the agreement of 4 July that Ita Airways signed only with some trade unions and that Fit-Cisl, together with Ugl Trasporto Aereo, decided not to sign because it was unfair and highly disadvantageous on an economic level for the majority of workers“.
The industrial plan prepared by Ita at the time, underlines Fit Cisl, “will have to be re-examined and redefined in line with the EU decisions and the strategies of the German group that has taken over as the new shareholder, in light of an unexpected, yet positive and welcome recovery in passenger traffic at Italian airports. As we have always maintained – underlines Fit-Cisl – the industrial plan will have to foresee an increase in the fleet and the expansion of the commercial offer that will allow a reabsorption in the production cycle of the personnel still on redundancy. This concerns approximately 2,200 resources including ground personnel, staff, maintenance, pilots and flight attendants who, according to the company assignments, would have and must have priority of entry into the company with respect to candidates who do not come from Alitalia Cityliner and Alitalia Sai“.
“Furthermore, we cannot ignore the weaknesses that have already been reported for some time at the management level from the point of view of the organization, by way of example. of the assignment of work shifts, which have recreated a condition of unease among the staff that is difficult to overcome in the absence of discontinuity with respect to the current management. Problems underlying the dispute that led to the strike being called on Saturday 7 September and which remains confirmed at the moment”, the union underlines. “In the absence of an immediate reactivation of the negotiating table by the top management of Ita Airways, the mobilization, unfortunately, will continue with more incisive actions but always in compliance with the rules that regulate the exercise of the right to strike, to protect and defend the contractual rights of workers, for a higher quality of the commercial offer and a higher satisfaction of passengers” concludes Fit-Cisl.
WizzAir also on strike
“Saturday 7th September first strike action of 4 hours, from 1pm to 5pm, of pilots and flight attendants of Wizzair”. This was proclaimed by Filt Cgil, explaining that “as the most representative trade union organization of workers employed in Italy by the Hungarian company, we denounce how the staff, for years now, has supported the rapid expansion of the carrier, working grueling shifts and at the limit of current legislation with consequent increases in operational fatigue”.
“The strike – finally reports the Transport Federation of the Cgil – was proclaimed due to the issuing and subsequent unilateral changes by Wizzair of a wage regulation without ever taking into consideration the requests and needs of its employees who are demanding a collective contract, as in other companies, and for the failure to comply with Italian legislation on health and safety.”.
