It’s clear that making it in the video game industry is becoming increasingly difficult due to the excessive competition, especially in the multiplayer market. Concord tried to make it big, but it fell short. Its abrupt end caught the attention of gamers and other developers in the sector.
PlayStation and Firewalk Studios’ competitive hero shooter had a disappointing launch on all fronts. In addition to receiving negative reviews, it had a very poor commercial performance. As a result, its developers announced that they will stop selling it and that the servers will be shutting down shortly.
While some players are celebrating the failure of this new online proposal, members of the video game industry have expressed their solidarity and support.

Cliff Bleszinski, John Johanas and more creatives react to Concord’s failure
Following the news that the sci-fi video game will cease operations, Cliff Bleszinski, one of the fathers of the Gears of War franchise, shared a message in which he shows that he understands the situation that the developers of Firewalk Studios are probably going through. “Concord, I feel your pain,” he wrote.
For those who have forgotten, CliffyB was the founder of KeyProductions, a defunct studio that released LawBreakers in 2017. That futuristic hero shooter was unable to build a community around itself, managing a record 7,482 concurrent users upon its debut. Although a free-to-play format was adopted, it was insufficient and the servers were eventually shut down.

John Johanas, director of The Evil Within 2 and the critically acclaimed Hi-Fi RUSH, also spoke out about the situation. In a post on his personal social media account, he explained that he liked Concord and expressed his support for the people who worked on it.
“I feel terrible for everyone who worked hard to get this out. Plus, it was the first PvP game in a long time that really connected with me, and I had a lot of fun with it. So this hurts even more. I hope they find a way to come back,” the creative commented.
Let’s remember that, despite the overwhelmingly positive reception of Hi-Fi RUSH, Microsoft announced the closure of Tango Gameworks at the beginning of May, a few days after the launch of the port for PlayStation 5. Luckily, in August it was announced that the Xbox house sold the studio and the franchise to KRAFTON.

Meanwhile, former Destiny 2 community manager Liana Ruppert recalled how many other games as a service had the opportunity to bounce back. She is therefore optimistic that Concord can return in some form or another.
“No Man’s Sky, The Elder Scrolls Online, Rainbow Six Siege – there are plenty of games that have shown that this isn’t the end. With the right measures and the right support, we could see the return of Concord in a massive way, which would be a win for players and developers. You have my support,” wrote Liana Ruppert.
Former Naughty Dog writer Josh Scherr said his heart goes out to the members of Firewalk Studios, while Remedy Entertainment’s Thomas Puh stressed how difficult it is to sell in the video game industry.
