Bluetongue is only dangerous for animals, humans cannot get it. The virus is transmitted by midges, a type of small mosquito. It causes, among other things, a blue tongue, high fever and swelling. Sheep are most at risk of dying from it. This risk can be reduced by vaccinating animals.
