Lata is Champion, Lupino first increasingly alone. The weekend of the Gioiella Circuit also crowns Simone Mancini, Rookies Cup. Games almost over, but the grand season finale in Pietramurata, 12-13 October
September 1, 2024
Castiglione del Lago, September 1st. Hellish heat. The track has become hard and wetting it is of little use, the clay is cooking and it is almost worse. The complete opposite of Ponte a Egola, days of mud and a stormy finale. In the variety of conditions, Castiglion del Lago also becomes a test… a trial by fire. The Championship has already, in fact, made its basic selections, and the start towards the last of the season of the Italian Prestige, moved to Pietramurata, for the weekend of October 12th and 13th, already outlines the clear contours of the values on the field.
To the point that there are even those who close the season with a race to spare at the end. There are two cases. Simone Mancini, Fantic, wins the Rookies Cup promoted by the Italian Motorcycle Federation. Nothing to be done for the very good Alessandro Gaspari, KTM, who had arrived at the Vinicio Rosadi with a chance, more theoretical than practical, which still implied a good dose of bad luck for the leader. And, above all, Valerio Lata, GasGas, who, with yet another double win, closes the practice of a season dominated without ifs and buts in a streak marked only by the second place in Race 2 at Ponte a Egola.
When talking about the weekend, it is about the solos of Alessandro Lupino, Ducati, and Valerio Lata, GasGas, who characterize the sunny show of the Gioella circuit packed with spectators. In particular, the penultimate of the Championship shows the manifesto of the performance of both Riders, as in a summary of the progress of their respective seasons. In clear, constant progression, as the development of the Desmo450 MX is added to the numbers of reliability and performance, the Championship leader of Lupino. Confirming an almost announced supremacy, and fixed in the cement race after race, the case of Valerio Lata. They are the two “Policemen” of the neighboring Region, Viterbo and Rome respectively, however, who dominate in Umbria the weekend of Castiglione del Lago, effectively leaving their opponents few glimmers of notoriety.
MX1. Alessandro Lupino (Ducati – Fiamme Oro) is on his second consecutive victory in this Italian championship, the product of a first and a second place in the heats. First from the holeshot to the checkered flag in Race 1, Lupino is second in Race 2, overtaken only by Andrea Bonacorsi, Yamaha. The result of the debuting all-Italian duo is clear and helps strengthen their leadership in the Championship, further clarified by the “oversights” of Giuseppe Tropepe, Honda, and Isaak Gifting, Yamaha, protagonists of a practically disastrous weekend. So much so that the second in the standings is now Jan Pancar (KTM), however detached by over 300 points.
MX2. It’s another double for Valerio Lata (GasGas – Fiamme Oro), who adds nine heat victories out of ten disputed, a result that mathematically assures the Rider, and the Beddini Team of course, the title of Italian Absolute Champion MX2. The alternative to Lata, on paper checked and on the eve, was Yago Martinez, but the TM Rider, who had also “promised” a victory to the Team, got himself in a mess, favoring Alessandro Manucci (GasGas – Trivella) second and again in the running for the title of… vice-champion. Samuele Bernardini (Honda – Lago d’Iseo) completes the podium of Gioella’s MX2 weekend.
Here are the complete rankings. As we anticipated, the next appointment with the Italian Motocross Championship Prestige 24MX Borilli Pro Series 2024 of the Mx1 and Mx2 classes is also the last. Mass migration of enthusiasts towards Pietramurata, on October 12 and 13.
