Racing driver Kevin Magnussen will not be allowed to participate in the next Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Danish Haas driver was given a penalty after a collision with Pierre Gasly during the Italian Grand Prix. Magnussen received two penalty points on his racing license and has accumulated 12 penalty points within a year. This means he has been suspended for the race in Azerbaijan, which will take place on September 15, according to the FIA.
Magnussen is the first Formula 1 driver to accumulate 12 penalty points in a year. The Dane, who is in his final season with Haas, collected five penalty points at the Miami Grand Prix in May, bringing his total to 10.
Magnussen also received a ten-second time penalty, but still finished tenth. With that, the Haas driver still managed to collect 1 World Championship point.
Haas can still appeal Magnussen’s punishment. The Dane himself told Viaplay that he disagreed with the punishment he had received and that it was disproportionate compared to the milder punishment that Australian Daniel Ricciardo received.
