Selling Solar Light at Night is the goal of the startup Reflect Orbital, which has chosen to use a large space mirror to do so. Mashable has intervened on the issue, stating that applications are open to be able to “reserve a place in the light”. And to do this, a demonstration video was used, published exactly on X-formerly-Twitter.
In the demo, you can see former SpaceX intern Ben Nowack using an app outside in the dark. Specifically, through this app, Nowack seems to have demonstrated his ability to control the position of the mirrors that reflect sunlight from the company. After selecting the exact point where he is, the entire area around him suddenly lit up. So much so that it seemed to be illuminated by the lights of a stadium.
Some valuable information
How was it possible to shoot the video? Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to answer this question at the moment. It is not yet clear whether the video represents the simulation of a light transport service or something else. What is clear is that to date Reflect Orbital has not yet launched the mirror-equipped satelliteThe company, which is headquartered in California, has intervened on the issue by stating on its official page that the delivery in question will take place in 2025, and precisely in the second part of the year.
But how much will the launch cost and, above all, how much will it cost consumers to be able to buy solar light? Unfortunately, answering these questions is complicated at the moment. There is no price listed on the company’s website. It is unclear whether Nowack preferred not to answer the question about costs during the interview with Vice in the Reflect report. Or whether he was not asked any such question. Most likely, however. It won’t be anything cheapbut it is not possible to give a certain answer.
