A baby has fallen from a window on the Markt in Helmond. The child was seriously injured and is being taken away by a trauma helicopter. It is still unclear how the baby fell from the window. This is already the sixth fall of a child from a window or balcony in a short period of time.
The seriously injured child was taken by the ambulance and is being transferred to a trauma helicopter on the N270 (Bakelseweg). The N270 is completely closed for a short time as a result.
The police will investigate the cause of the accident at the Markt in the centre of Helmond.

Rotterdam
Last week a 3-year-old child fell from a window in Rotterdam. That was the fifth time since July 29 that a (small) child fell from a window or balcony in that city.
A police spokesman said that all five falls were accidents. “These are very sad accidents for everyone. We do not want to blame the parents.”
However, the series of incidents prompted the police to now call on residents to be vigilant around young children. “We think it is important that people think carefully about how they have furnished their rooms. What do you put against or under a windowsill? Do you open a window with blinds in front of it?”
The police say they understand that people open their windows more often in the summer, ‘but it is especially important to check carefully that your child cannot reach them’.
‘Hot summer weather’
Veiligheid NL also sees that such accidents occur more often ‘in hot summer weather’. According to a spokesperson, parents sometimes overestimate their own alertness. “Keeping a constant eye on your child is of course super important, but also incredibly difficult. In addition, people sometimes overestimate what a child understands of the rules and agreements you make with the child. Understanding agreements develops from the age of 3.”
In addition, people often underestimate what a child can already do: “Suddenly a child can do something that you might not have thought of beforehand.”
