If you’ve ever driven around the French Riviera, you know: a Citroën Méhari is the perfect means of transport to show that you and your money are on holiday. The prices for the classic model are also completely out of control, although there is a way to put a Méhari in your name and not tear your pants on it… And especially here in Flanders.

Just under ten years ago, Citroën launched a spiritual successor to the Méhari: the E-Méhari. As its name suggests, it had an electric drivetrain consisting of an electric motor of — brace yourself — 68 hp and a battery of — imagine — 30 kWh. On a good day, that should get you about 200 kilometers, and on a good day it was better, because just like the original Méhari, the E-Méhari had no real roof. Instead, you got a do-it-yourself kit to try to make your French gadget wind and waterproof. It goes without saying that Citroën didn’t sell very many E-Méharis: it remained at about a thousand units.
One of those thousand units could now be yours, because there is one for sale on AutoScout24. And it is not just any old one, because the 2017 model comes in the apple-blue-sea-green launch color complete with red interior. The seller is asking 10,400 euros for it, but if you buy it this year, that is not what you will pay. This E-Méhari is eligible for the Flemish EV premium, although you cannot get the full 3,000 euros in state aid for it. The government pays back a maximum of 25 percent of the purchase price, so in this case you can count on a refund of 2,600 euros. In short: at the end of the day, this Citroën E-Méhari is yours for 7,800 euros… And is it just us, or is that purchase suddenly starting to sound less illogical?
