So far, one of the most attention-grabbing details about Pressure, Brendan Fraser’s new drama, is its incredible cast, as, in addition to the renowned actor The Mummy (1999), it will feature the presence of Andrew Scott. But that’s not all, it was recently announced that Kerry Condor will play the female lead in the film that explores the events that occurred during World War II, in the style of the best war films in history.
Kerry Condon adds value to Pressure
Originally from Ireland, Condon made her big screen debut in Angela’s Ashes (1999). However, her breakthrough came with her role in the series Roma (2005). In 2015, she shined in her own right in Better Call Saul (2015) and, recently, alongside David Hollander in Ray Donovan, the movie (2022).
She has also collaborated with playwright Martin McDonagh, both on stage and on two of his most iconic productions: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) and Inisherin (2022), for which she received an Academy Award nomination.
In addition to her acting talent, she has lent her voice to several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, playing FRIDAY, Tony Stark’s AI assistant. Her most recent productions include The Land of Saints and Sinners (2023) and The Pool (2024), where she shared the leading role with the talented Liam Neeson and Wyatt Rusell, respectively.
Pressure is not the only project Kerry Condon has going on at the moment, in fact, the actress’s schedule is quite busy. On the one hand, she will have the leading role in the production F1 directed by Joseph Kosinski, which will be released in 2025. On the other hand, she will be part of the Joel Edgerton drama Train Dreams and the lead cast in the series Star Wars: Lost Crew.
What is Pressure about?
With filming set to begin next month in the UK, Pressure revolves around British meteorologist James Stagg, who was tasked with determining the weather conditions for the D-Day landings, a key aspect in the success of the Allied invasion.
It is set a few years before Dwight D. Eisenhower occupied the White House as President of the United States between 1953 and 1961. In this way, the character played by Brendan Fraser, exposes his performance as commander of the United States Army, while he was in charge of coordinating the most important operations of the Allies during World War II.
Eisenhower combined his intelligence with that of Stagg to choose the precise moment for the invasion of Normandy, giving rise to the battle that had the greatest impact on the fall of the Nazi regime.
Pressure has the formula for success
Under the direction of Anthony Maras, who we saw take on the challenge of bringing Hotel Bombay to the screen in 2018, Pressure is the film adaptation of David Haig’s 2014 play, and the two even collaborated on the script.
The film is produced by Studiocanal and Working Title and depicts the real events leading up to the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944, an event that marked the course of World War II.
Ultimately, Pressure continues to add points towards its goal of becoming a box office hit. The addition of Kerry Condon is an important element, as it favours the consolidation of a formidable cast, alongside Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser. So far, we know that the Better Call Saul actress will play General Eisenhower’s driver and assistant, in what promises to be a story that, like Come and See (1985), captures the horror of World War II from a realistic and brutal perspective.
