This is confirmed by fruit grower Jurgen Huiskamp from Welsum. “There was a lot of rain during the flowering period, but our flowering period was a few days later than in the rest of the country. That, combined with the better climate, makes a difference in the end result.” Huiskamp, who has no less than 11 hectares of apples and pears, will start harvesting tomorrow and that will take about four weeks. It is indeed a bit less this year, but according to him the end result is not bad. “Then we are talking about a few percent less,” he says.
