- Warning: Spoilers for Absolute Power #2
A brutal battle is raging in DC Comics. The evil trinity of Queen Brainiac, Failsafe, and Amanda Waller have launched a blitzkrieg against metahumans and are laying waste to everything in their path. However, a resistance has formed and is barely surviving.
The series Absolute Power presents a story in which this evil trinity has developed technology to steal superpowers and kill any metahuman, whether hero or villain. The ferocity of this war has forced the resistance to take refuge in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, but even such a remote place is not safe.
Following Amanda Waller’s total victory, the metahumans of the DC Universe have been depowered, scattered to the winds, and are reeling from a critical planet-wide defeat. (…) …but even this sanctuary of peace and hope is not safe from Waller’s blitzkrieg.
The comic Absolute Power #2, available since last August 7, showed us some heartbreaking panels: Superman destroying his own Fortress of Solitude to delay Amanda Waller’s attack and give the rest of the metahumans time to escape through a portal opened by Nightwing and Blue Beetle.
However, Superman only takes this extreme measure after Queen Brainiac uses a beam of red solar energy to counteract all of the Kryptonians that Wonder Woman and Aquaman summoned from the iconic bottled city of Kandor. According to the wiki, its population is around 100,000 inhabitants.
Not this time. Callsign: Kal-El. Activate Black Zero protocol! Initiate self-destruct!
The Fortress of Solitude has been destroyed on other occasions, such as in the film Superman II (Richard Donner), in Superman: The Animated Series and during the event Flashpointbut rarely has he flown through the air with such brutality and causing so many deaths as in Absolute Power #2. Not only does he manage to stop the attack of the evil trinity, he also lays waste to Kandor and therefore thousands of Kryptonians, as ScreenRant indicates. Although it may not seem like it, it is a heartbreaking moment for Superman.
