‘The Toriyama Archives’ is the name of the special column on the Dragon Ball website, in which, every two days, little-known and unpublished illustrations that Akira Toriyama drew at some point in his career are shared, which have served to significantly expand the legacy left by the iconic mangaka. But these only last on the website for 24 hours, so you must pay close attention if you don’t want to miss any of these memorable designs.
For some time now, this special column has been sharing wonderful Dragon Ball illustrations, which have caused great nostalgia to die-hard fans who usually keep an eye on each update, so this section has a very special meaning both for the franchise and for the followers who continue to admire every detail and design that Toriyama inked many years ago.
On this occasion, the Dragon Ball website has shared a special illustration of Goku and Gohan dating back to the 80s in which father and son have a fun ride in a racing car, which highlights Akira Toriyama’s love for cars.

As we mentioned, this special column was born after the unfortunate death of Akira Toriyama at the beginning of March 2024. That is why this section emerged as part of a tribute to the artist and his splendid work, which has influenced and amazed the world for several generations.
Also, one of the most notable features of this column, in addition to sharing unpublished content from the work, is that they only remain available for 24 hours on the official Dragon Ball website, making these illustrations more interesting and memorable.
Recently, this special column shared an illustration of Gohan and Goku dating back to the 80s, which not only contains a pleasant moment between father and son, but also highlights the great love and passion that Akira Toriyama had for cars since he was fascinated with drawing and redesigning all kinds of cars for his iconic work.
In this image we can see Gohan and Goku having a fun ride in a racing car with a very distinctive design that seems to have been inspired by the classic Bugatti sports car. This illustration is a draft of the image that appeared on the cover of Dragon Ball volume 15, which was first published on December 11, 1988.
Evidently, the design of this car is a bit different from the ones Akira Toriyama used to ink for his work, as he was “inspired” by the classic “Bugatti” sports car to bring to life this brilliant illustration that highlights the artist’s passion for cars.
It is worth noting that Akira Toriyama’s love for cars could often be seen in Dragon Ball, as on several occasions the mangaka made fantastic illustrations of all kinds of very distinctive cars and spaceships, which gave a unique touch to this work.
But that’s not all, as Toriyama even did special collaborations with McLaren in the 1990s, creating memorable illustrations that will endure over time.
Without a doubt, ‘The Toriyama Archives’ on the Dragon Ball website has become a very special pastime for die-hard fans of the franchise, as they can delight in and review the iconic art and illustrations that the mangaka created over the years, which are only available for a limited time.
