While Marvel Studios won’t be returning to the big screen until next year, Sony will be returning to theaters with Kraven the Hunter, a spin-off film starring one of the most iconic villains in the Spider-Man universe. While Sony has had a mixed record when it comes to the quality of its films, this new installment looks to set itself apart from what has been seen so far.
In an interview with the American portal Deadline, the director of the film, J.C. Chandorspoke about the filmmaking process and expressed his pride in the final result, assuring that it will surprise fans of both the character and the Spider-Man universe.
“I’m very proud of the work we’ve done together on Kraven,” Chandor told the outlet via a text message he received shortly after the interview, “and when the movie finally gets a chance to be seen, I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.”
It is clear that Sony is looking to redeem itself after the failure of Madame Web at the beginning of the year, and to do so it will have two big bets: on the one hand, Kraven the Hunterplayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson; and on the other, Tom Hardy with his Venom, who will say goodbye with a film that promises to be even bolder than previous installments.
