Latina, August 13, 2024 – For a safe Ferragosto on the Latina seafrontMayor Matilde Celentano issued this morning the ordinance, number 209, for the closure of free beaches for the nights of August 14 and 15.
What does the ordinance provide?
The provision establishes an absolute ban on access to and stay on the free beach from sunset on August 14 to dawn on August 15 and from sunset on August 15 to dawn on August 16, in the section “B” of the seafront between the “Hotel Fogliano” beach resort and the mouth of Rio Martino and for the Valmontorio beach, between the “La Vela Beach” beach resort and the mouth of the Astura river.
The ordinance also concerns the section “A” of the seafront between the “La Vela Beach” bathing establishment and the “Hotel Fogliano” bathing establishment: access to and permanence on the public and concessionary beach is prohibited between midnight and 6:00 a.m. on 14 and 15 August.
“In general, on the beaches of the coast for the days of August 14 and 15 it is forbidden – it is specified in the Mayor’s order – to hold public demonstrations and/or social events unless expressly authorized by the competent authorities, to stack wood and/or other similar flammable material, to light fires and to set up camps. In the same areas and in the time slot between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., the serving and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited; furthermore, for non-alcoholic beverages, the serving and sale for takeaway of the same in glass bottles or other materials whose improper use is likely to threaten the safety of people is prohibited. In the places, on the days and in the time slots indicated above, provide, also through the Local Police and Coast Guard, suitable surveillance services on the imposed prohibitions, as well as arrange for the positioning of devices that prevent and/or signal the prohibition of access to the prohibited areas”.
“The ordinance was necessary – explained Mayor Celentano – in order to safeguard the safety and security of people and avoid damage to the environment, since every year, precisely on the evenings of Ferragosto, unauthorized parties are organized on the beaches, complete with fires and bonfires, which can cause accidents and fires. The provisions contained therein respond to the indications provided by the Prefecture”.
Also today, Mayor Celentano ordered, through Councilor Gianluca Di Cocco with responsibility for Civil Protection, the activation of the Municipal Operations Center (Coc) to deal with any critical issues that may arise during the events organized for Ferragosto, for which a significant influx of people is expected, in order to meet the various needs, including information and assistance to the population, within the limits of the tasks that can be carried out by Civil Protection volunteers. The Coc will be active from 7:30 on August 15 until the needs cease, as established in mayoral ordinance number 210.
