After the 2nd league has been running for two weeks, the first competitive games of the season are now also coming up for the Bundesliga teams. The first round of the DFB Cup begins on Friday, and the German record champions are up against each other on the first evening: FC Bayern face second division newcomers SSV Ulm.
Last season, the Ulmer Spatzen achieved a sensational march from the Regionalliga to the 2nd league. As a newly promoted team, the team became champions of the 3rd league with a lead of ten points.
Ulm, however, had a bad start to the new season. After the first two games of the season, they still have zero points on their account. They suffered narrow defeats against FC Kaiserslautern (1:2) and Jahn Regensburg (0:1).
Now they will face FC Bayern, where Vincent Kompany will make his competitive debut as head coach. The Belgian was presented as the new coach in May after a long search in which FCB received several rejections.
It remains to be seen whether Bayern fans will also see any new players. In the friendly, only loan returnee Josip Stanisic was in the starting eleven, with Joao Palhinha coming on as a substitute. The Portuguese is the only new player who could be considered for the match against Ulm. Hiroki Ito is out because of a broken metatarsal, and Michael Olise will only start team training during the week. He played with the French selection at the Olympic Games and won silver.
Like all DFB Cup matches, the match between SSV Ulm and FC Bayern will be broadcast on Sky In addition, the game will also be shown on free TV, which ZDF transmits.
