This first edition organized in Jerez, with the support of the Andalusian Regional Council, will see 48 competitors from 19 countries compete. Among them are Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand and the United States. Faces more or less known, among which we find those of the Italians Elia Bartolini, Alessandro Di Persio and Josephine Bruno. In addition to those of other internationally known pilots, among which stand out Kasma Daniel, Maxwell Toth and the current competitors of the Women’s World Championship, Maria Herrera, Isis Carreno, Mallory Dobbs, Tayla Relph, Astrid Madrigal and Nicole Van Aswegen.
The inaugural Intercontinental Games will be limited to the Supersport and Supersport 300 categories, with disciplines such as motocross and enduro to be added as the event gains momentum. Yamaha Europe will be the official partner of the event, providing the R7 and R3 machines used in the competition.
Each Continental Union will have its own colors and will field eight drivers, four for each class, with at least one woman per category. The age of the drivers will be in accordance with the sporting regulations of each discipline.
The official fuel supplier of the competitions will be Panta Racing Fuel, while on the tire front, Dunlop will be the official supplier of the event and will also provide its in-race assistance service for the entire duration of the competition. The FIM Continental Unions will then be supported by Beta Utensili, which will provide them with professional mechanical equipment and toolboxes, and their standard bearers will show off gloves and suits with electronic airbag provided by SPIDI, XPD boots and Airoh GP 800 helmets approved by the FIM.
Four races in the 2024 FIM Intercontinental Games
Television coverage of the Games will be supported by Dorna, which will handle television production, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports Europe, which will broadcast the competitions on its digital platforms.
The event will therefore represent an important international platform for young drivers, who in the 2024 event will compete in two races per class. For a total of four races, between R3 and R7.
The points earned by each rider in each race will then be added to those collected by the other members of his team, to determine which of the six Continental Unions will win this inaugural edition of the FIM Intercontinental Games.
“As the date of the first FIM Intercontinental Games approaches, the anticipation is growing stronger. It is very exciting to bring together all six FIM Continental Unions in the year of the FIM’s 120th anniversary and the participation of riders from all over the world underlines a real sense of unity,” commented FIM President Jorge Viegas. “I am confident that this is only the beginning and that the Games will continue to develop and grow.”
