Borussia Dortmund cut a good figure at the season opener. It was not just the white BVB third jerseys and the emotional speech by the new coach Nuri Sahin that caused joy and euphoria, but also what the Dortmund professionals conjured up on the pitch against the English premier league team Aston Villa.
Dortmund presented themselves well structured both in defence and in attack and took a 2-0 lead in the first half with a double strike after just under half an hour. Captain Emre Can scored the first Dortmund goal from a penalty (33′) and just two minutes later Julian Brandt took advantage of a serious defensive error by Villas in the six-yard box and coolly chipped the ball past goalkeeper Martinez for Dortmund’s second goal.
BVB fans online also had a lot of fun at the friendly against Villa and were particularly pleased with the new signings Pascal Groß and Yan Couto. The two new Borussia players even gave rise to hopes of winning the title and impressed with their performance in the first half.
In the end, BVB not only convinced the fans in the stadium in front of a sold-out crowd, but also created a positive atmosphere online ahead of the upcoming start of the season. The result remained a 2-0 victory.
The Dortmund team also showed their composure in the second half and did not let the flow of the game break despite two substitutions. New signing Yan Couto and Karim Adeyemi left the pitch and made way for Ramy Bensebaini and Sebastian Haller.
