After leaving a void in Superpole, Maria Herrera had to sweat for victory in the first heat of the Women’s World Championship race in Portimao. The Klint Forward Factory Team rider in fact took her fifth win of the season after a first part of the race in the form of a four-way fight, which turned into an intense duel with Sara Sanchez in the final laps.
The 511 Terra&Vita Racing Team Unica rider was the only one who managed to keep up with Maria in the final stages of the race, arriving just 60 thousandths away from her first win in the World Championship. Third place in the sprint for Ana Carrasco, who managed to get the better of Beatriz Neila by just nine thousandths. Also due to some problems with the gearbox, suffered especially in the last two laps, which cut the Iberian from the Evan Bros. team out of the fight for victory.
Pakita Ruiz then completed an all-Spanish five, snatching fifth place from Roberta Ponziani. Seventh place for Jessica Howden, returning after the fall in Misano, who preceded Tayla Relph, Nicole van Aswegen and Astrid Madrigal.
