Paris, 10 August 2024 – Giorgio Malan wins the bronze medal in the pentathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The blue closes his test with 1536 points behind the Egyptian Ahmed Elgendy, gold with 1555 points and the Japanese Taishu Sato (1542 points). Fifth place for the other Italian Matthew Cicinelli (1527 points). Italy returns to the Olympic podium in the individual pentathlon 36 years later Carlo Massullo’s silver at Seoul 1988.
Viviani and Consonni silver in Madison
Elia Viviani and Simone Consonni silver medal in track cycling, Madison specialty, at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Azzurri today, August 10, close in second place with 47 points, behind Portugal who won gold with 55 points. Bronze for Denmark, third with 41 points.
Special mention for Consonni, who completed the race after a disastrous fall less than 20 laps from the end of the test. The Italian duo remained in command until 10 laps (of the 200 planned) from the end and paid for Consonni’s fall, which in the end allowed the Italians to play their cards best in the two final sprints: overtaking Portugal.
The silver medal won by Viviani and Consonni is the 38th Italian medal at the Games. They will soon become 39 with third place for Giorgi Malan in the pentathlon. In total, 11 golds, 13 silvers and 15 bronzes.
Track cycling brings the third medal to the tricolor medal table after the gold in the women’s madison and the bronze in the men’s pursuit. If we consider Filippo Ganna’s silver in the road time trial, the tricolor bike medals become 4.
Viviani wins the third Olympic medal of his career after the gold won in Rio 2016 and the bronze in Tokyo 2020.
