Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi doubts whether he can defend his Olympic title in Paris on Saturday night. He is suffering from kidney stones again. “I don’t know how I can jump under these conditions,” he reports on Instagram.
Tamberi jumped 2.37 meters at the Tokyo Games three years ago, as did Mutaz Barshim from Qatar. Both athletes received a gold medal. The Italian postponed his departure for Paris last week because of a fever following an acute attack of kidney stones. He qualified for the final without any problems on Wednesday with a jump of 2.24 meters.
