Actor Jacob Bertrand, known for his role as Hawk in Cobra Kai, has expressed interest in joining Xolo Maridueña, who plays Blue Beetle, in James Gunn’s DCEU reboot. Although 2023 is arguably the most difficult year for the DCEU timeline, the franchise is being replaced by James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans. With several TV series and films already in development, a new path begins for DC in which Warner Bros. will try to find the key to success in its interconnected universe.
A Cobra Kai cast member explains how he would like to be part of the DCEU
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Jacob Bertrand was promoting the final season of Cobra Kai. While discussing the series’ conclusion, he was asked if he had been lobbying Xolo Maridueña to try and get him a role in the DCEU. Here’s what he had to say about it:
No, I haven’t yet. For starters, I’d have to improve my knowledge of superheroes since I was never a comic book reader. Xolo was the person who really made that happen. I remember when I first met him, he kept saying, “That’s my dream role. I want to play Blue Beetle.” You know what? If that ever happened, I’d have to play a villain. I’d love to be the one trying to kill Blue Beetle.
While it’s true that the Blue Beetle movie didn’t do well at the box office, Jaime Reyes’ adventures seem far from over. In fact, James Gunn confirmed that Xolo Maridueña’s version of Blue Beetle would continue as part of the plans for the new franchise. While Blue Beetle 2 won’t be happening for now, there is a different project in the works that Jacob Bertland could be a part of, which would allow the Cobra Kai stars to finally reunite.
A Blue Beetle animated series is currently in development, with Miguel Puga serving as showrunner. James Gunn has yet to comment on the Blue Beetle series, but the Cobra Kai actor could lend his voice to a DC Comics character.
Considering that DC Studios has set a precedent where an actor who portrays a character in animation often also plays his live-action counterpart, the new series centered on Blue Beetle could actually be a debut for the actor in the DCEU. It’s possible that James Gunn and DC Studios will give further updates on Blue Beetle-related projects in the near future.
