The Blue outlines a tactical and waiting race. In the last kilometer, speed up and in the last 100 meters she takes flight and crosses the finish line second, with a time of 30’43”35. And it’s the new Italian record.
E’ a historic medal for Italy at the Games. In tears and in disbelief on the track, she raises the tricolour flag on her shoulders, happy.
The Italian placed behind Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, gold in 30’43″25. Third was Dutch Sifan Hassan, bronze in 30’44″12.
“I arrived with the desire to learn a lot. My focus was on the 5,000 meters, then I had some discomfort and reduced the load. I wasn’t even thinking about the 10,000 meters. The approach wasn’t easy, I thank the medical staff. I wanted to have some more fun. So I entered the race with a smile and with a lighthearted attitude. My tendon hurt a lot. When they tear, they do it hard. I had my eyes open and I said, don’t run away from me. I thank my family, the Italians, who filled me with messages. My sponsors, the medical staff”.
