Curious episode in the Milan area. The sixth section of the Milan Flying Squad has stopped three Colombian citizens: they are accused of receiving stolen goods and suspected of various thefts of bicycles and scooters in the Milan area. Two of them were caught at the post office in via Perugino in Pioltello while they were trying to package and ship an expensive carbon fiber bicycle. When questioned about the origin of the bicycle, they gave conflicting versions, arousing the suspicions of the police. Thus, the officers, thanks to their investigations, traced a third man, also of Colombian nationality, who was in turn caught in a dilapidated apartment in Vignate while he was packing another carbon fiber bicycle. In the house, two more electric scooters were found and seized, a third carbon fiber bicycle and an e-bike, all ready to be shipped to Colombia. (Source: La Repubblica)
Unfortunately, bike and e-bike theft is a serious problem, especially in large cities, and often a deterrent to purchasing a new vehicle. While many enthusiasts are willing to take an extra risk for the vehicle with which they can freely enjoy their passion without ever losing sight of it, there are many “common users” who, especially for commuting, do not choose a new e-bike precisely because of fears of theft. Manufacturers know this and are taking action as best they can by entering into partnerships with both traditional and digital security system manufacturers and with insurance companies, even offering to return the stolen vehicle.
