ROME – “These unlivable conditions in prisons are paid for by those who are in there. We need personnel, we need resources but the Government is too caught up in its ideological and punitive fury by inventing useless crimes and harshening the penalties. We continue to think that a prison like this no longer produces safety. They have sunk the proposal on mothers in prison, it is a disgrace”.
This was declared by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, outside Montecitorio.
