Philipp Max played three international matches for Germany in 2020, back then as a player for FC Augsburg. With the aim of being nominated for the DFB team again, Max returned from PSV Eindhoven to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga at the beginning of 2023. However, the left-back may have imagined his time at SGE differently.
After a good start as a loan player in the second half of the 2022/23 season, Eintracht signed Max permanently in the summer of 2023. A disappointing season followed: the 30-year-old only played 17 times in the Bundesliga for Frankfurt from the start. Coach Dino Toppmöller did not even nominate him for the group stage of the Conference League.
Max would probably go into the new season with even worse cards. In addition to Niels Nkounkou, who has overtaken him in the left-back position, Max has another competitor in new signing Nathaniel Brown. Bild According to reports, Brown impressed at Frankfurt’s training camp in the USA.
The result: Max currently seems to be only number three in his position. In the test matches so far, he has only been used in central defence. Nkounkou and Brown shared the playing time on the left side.
The former Augsburg player seems to be drawing his conclusions from the situation. Bild According to reports, he is thinking about a transfer and the club would let him go. Now a buyer seems to have been found: According to the Greek portal sporttime.gr Max will move to Panathinaikos Athens.
The traditional Greek club finished last season in fourth place. The team is currently trying to qualify for the Europa League. In the second qualifying round, Panathinaikos beat Botev Plovdiv from Bulgaria. In the next round, they face a big hurdle with Ajax Amsterdam. Max may be able to help then.
Sky has now also confirmed the upcoming transfer. Transfer expert Florian Pellenberg already sees the deal as perfect. An agreement has been reached with Eintracht, and the transfer fee, including bonuses, is said to be one million euros. Max is set to sign in Athens until 2027 or 2028.
