HBO releases the first trailer for the series set 100 years before Game of Thrones
The teaser, posted by Max en X’s official account on August 4, shows several scenes from Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall y Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon Targaryenknown as Egg. In addition to these shots, the trailer offers a look at other cast members in action-packed and drama-filled scenes, teasing a series as epic as its predecessor.
The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
Based on the short stories by George R.R. Martin, Tales of Dunk and Egg, The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the newest addition to the Game of Thrones universe. The first of these novels, The Hedge Knightwas first published in 1998 in the Legends anthology. The following installments, The Sworn Sword y The Mystery Knightarrived in 2003 and 2010 respectively.
The series follows Ser Duncan, a knight who bestows the title upon himself after donning the armor and regalia of the knight he served as a squire for. Duncan finds himself in the care of a young boy named Egg, who is later revealed to be a Targaryen prince. This mentor-apprentice relationship promises to be the centerpiece of the series, offering a unique perspective on the history of Westeros.
A new era in Westeros
The official synopsis for the series reads: “A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, roamed Westeros, while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne and dragons were still remembered. Great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends.” In April, it was confirmed that HBO had cast Claffey and Ansell to play Dunk and Egg. Claffey is known for his roles in Bad Sisters and Wreck, while Ansell played a young Cornelius Snow in The Hunger Games.
The trailer released by HBO has generated great anticipation among fans. The first images of Claffey as Ser Duncan show a noble and brave knight, while Ansell as Egg brings a touch of mystery and Targaryen class. The action scenes promise to maintain the level of epicness that characterizes GOT, with fights and conflicts that will surely be memorable.
The relationship between Dunk and Egg
One of the keys to the success of The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be the chemistry between its protagonists. The dynamic between Dunk and Egg, with Duncan as a humble knight and Egg as a prince in disguise, offers a rich narrative of friendship, loyalty and personal discovery. This focus on well-developed characters and complex relationships has always been a strength of George RR Martin’s works, and it seems that this series will be no exception.
Set one hundred years before the events of GOT, the series will offer a deeper look into Westeros’ past, exploring a time when the Targaryen dynasty still ruled the continent. This historical context not only enriches the lore of the universe created by Martin, but also provides new stories and characters that can capture the imagination of viewers.
HBO and the management of leaks
HBO has recently been faced with leaked clips from the season 2 finale of its current spin-off, House of the Dragon. Following the appearance of these clips on social media, the company has been working hard to remove them and minimize spoilers for fans. In a statement, HBO said: “We are aware that clips from the season finale of House of the Dragon have appeared on social media platforms. The clips were posted following an unintentional release by an international distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing the clips from the internet, and fans can watch the full episode this Sunday night on HBO and Max.”
