Disappointing garden butterfly count: never before so few butterflies as this year

Never before have so few butterflies been counted at the annual garden butterfly count of De Vlinderstichting as this year. On average, it was five butterflies per count, the organization reports based on provisional figures. The previous low record was eight butterflies per garden. It fits the picture that Sinie de Jonge, butterfly guide at Landschap Overijssel, sketched prior to the count. “We have lost a lot of butterflies over time.”
