Athlete Sifan Hassan is going for her first medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. She will run the final of the 5000 meters on Monday evening. The final is at 21:10.
Hassan, 31, will compete in three events at the Games. She also hopes to win a medal in the 10,000 meters and the marathon. “I just want to do crazy things and I just think it’s possible. Even though I’m already very nervous about the marathon, because I want to win a medal there,” Hassan said last Friday.
Three years ago, Hassan won three medals at the Tokyo Games: in the 1500 meters (bronze), the 5000 meters (gold) and the 10,000 meters (gold).
Monday also sees the finals of the pole vault (7:00 p.m.) and the discus throw (8:30 p.m.). Menno Vloon and Jorinde van Klinken will compete in these, respectively.
The Olympic track cycling tournament starts on Monday with the team sprint. The opening day will feature qualifications for women and men. The women’s final is also already scheduled.
