National champions PSV and cup winners Feyenoord will open the new season with a match for the Johan Cruijff Shield. Both teams also competed against each other last season for the first prize of the football year. PSV won 1-0, thanks to a goal by Noa Lang.
Lang missed a large part of last season, but is now fit again. PSV coach Peter Bosz cannot call on the injured Olivier Boscagli and Mauro Júnior. Armando Obispo and the long-term sidelined Sergiño Dest are also not there. Luuk de Jong was ill last week.
Feyenoord players Calvin Stengs and Quinten Timber are fit in time for the match in the Philips Stadium. Gernot Trauner is still injured and Quilindschy Hartman has a knee injury and is sidelined for the time being. Newcomers Julian Carranza (thigh injury) and Gijs Smal (calf injury) are also absent from the club from Rotterdam, which was defeated in the last practice matches against Benfica (5-0) and AS Monaco (1-3).
New coach Brian Priske did not want to say before the match against PSV whether Justin Bijlow or Timon Wellenreuther will be his first choice goalkeeper for the time being.
