In issue 2 of Spider-Man: Reign II, old Spider-Man surprises us with a trip to the past to face old enemies.
Spider-Man thought he had come out of retirement to save New York once again. However, now even more years have passed and the situation is much worse. This time, our hero must travel back in time on a mysterious mission to save the future. In this CBR exclusive From Spider-Man: Reign II #2, we see what Peter does when he arrives in the past.
A mission in time
Reign II #2written and drawn by Kaare Andrews, with colors by Brian Reber (with some coloring by Andrews himself), and letters by Joe Caramagna, picks up right where the first issue left off. Peter had been trapped in a virtual reality world for years after saving New York from Venom and the WEBS force field that kept the citizens trapped as prey for the symbiotes. By destroying the force field, Peter unwittingly freed a few prisoners, one of whom, Wilson Fisk, became the mayor of New York. Now, the WEBS force field is back, and it’s the only thing protecting the city from oblivion while bodies pile up outside.
A mysterious young heroine, nicknamed Kitty-Catfreed Peter from virtual reality (where he was living happily married to Mary Jane, despite the fact that she had died in the real world) and brought him to Norman Osborn, who sent Peter (and Kitty-Cat) back in time to help save the world.
Spider-Man goes back in time
Peter and Kitty-Cat arrive disoriented in the past. After smelling the old aromas of New York (like pizza!), Peter realizes he might be in a time when Mary Jane is still alive and runs to find her. At her old apartment, he finds someone else living there. In the midst of his confusion, two of the classic superhero villains, the Vulture and the Beetleattack and kill the apartment resident.
Reign II #2 The epic saga of Spider-Man continues. Can Peter save the future and, more importantly, Mary Jane?
A reunion with Mary Jane
Peter, disturbed by what he has seen, attacks the villains demanding to know where Mary Jane is. This scene leaves fans on the edge of their seats, waiting to find out in the next issue what is going on with the Vulture and the Beetle, and if Peter is really in the right time.
This comic not only presents us with a story full of nostalgia and action, but also raises profound questions about time and second chances. Peter, now an older man, must face not only his old enemies, but also the consequences of his past actions.
The villains are back in force
The presence of the Vulture and the Beetle in this story is no coincidence. These classic villains play a crucial role in the narrative, pushing Peter into extreme situations and forcing him to use all his cunning and experience to survive. The brutality with which they attack and kill the resident of Peter’s old apartment shows a darker and more dangerous side to these characters.
Reign 2 #2 promises to be one of the most exciting and moving chapters in the Spider-Man saga. With a perfect mix of action, nostalgia and moral dilemmas, this comic is a must-read for all Spider-Man fans.
